This is the story of Saleema and Shahjahan who live in Kovalam, Chennai. During the first lockdown, a bike accident sends the family through an unfortunate spiral of events. Saleema is a single mom, Shahjahan, her son, went through acute distress when he couldn’t find a way to treat his ailing mother.
The true extent to which marginalised communities get pushed around during a pandemic is unknown but a lot of working class families were affected during COVID pandemic. Of the 350 million people already below the poverty line,
70 million were estimated to have become “ultra-poor.”
When the State is busy combating the virus hyper focussing its energy on finding a way out of the quagmire, the lives of many citizens struggling with other afflictions had to be ignored.
